This is Redington. I came up with him last year, though Mora the Rat is new.
Redington lives in a world where the entire planet has been covered with layers and layers of trash. Most of the population have moved above the trash-covered land onto large Plates suspended by giant support beams. However, a small number of people still live below, finding ways to living on the abandoned earth, living as scavengers through the heaps and mounds of trash. People form the Plates, which contain grand, advance cities are named after constellations, the people from those cities named after stars. Down Below, the people live in loose Tribes, named after mountain ranges, the people themselves named after Mountains.
Redington is from Below, from a group that's part of the Appalachian Tribe. He's known for being odd in both personality and sense of taste. He tends to wander off away from his group, usually with Mora, to search for nothing in particular. He usually carries around an old telescope, which is used as a makeshift weapon. However, he does use it for it's original purpose and tries to look at the stars whenever he finds a gap between the Plates. That's one of his reasons for wandering off, as he likes to look at the stars, though they're hard to find.
Mora, his pet rat, is a mutant rat of course, which explains her large size. Most people don't keep animals as pets, which makes Redington a bit weird for keeping her. Still, he's highly attached to her as she is to him. She's a spirited thing and has an attitude and really likes things that are pink. Both are protective of one another and Redington hates it when people call her a "gross rat" or "vermin". He frequently will refer to her as his "beloved little Mora" especially in her defense. Mora's good at finding food, though she gets easily distracted by pink coloured things. Regular rats are known to be partially colour blind and only able to distinguish between blue and greens, but she's well known to find pick out pinks - this is probably thanks to her mutations, which also caused her larger size and length of life.
Large rats like Mora are actually common Below, though they are usually seen as pests.
In the story, Redington acts as a guide to a stranger from the Plates, the middle silbing of three, Wezn. She had attempted to assassinate the head of the ruling family of the city she lived in, in attempt to promote her brother to power. Their small, yet powerful, family had been bypassed and they acted after their city fell into a state of dismay. However. she was caught in the act and forced to flee, chased off to the edge of the Plate their city resided on. She fell into the Gap to the area below and by some chance, survived by landing on Redington, who had happened to be there trying to stargaze. She ropes him into taking her back to the support of the Plate so she can find a way to climb back to the top to hopefull help her family, fearing they had fallen into trouble after her failed assassination attempt.
I'll draw her later maybe But yesssss Redington and Mora
You are a fantastic artist. I envy your coloring ability and anatomy expertise, as well as your ability to create stories from nothing so easily. Well done.
I hope to see more of this in the future! ^_^
