Description

"Let me tell you a tale of two brothers
Who long ago lived in this town
One was a merry muscian
The other an author quite reknown

They both yearned for their own families
Ones to have and to hold
For comfortable homes and young children
And wives with which to grow old

Soon they both were happily married
They dreams were well on their way
They still dreamed to have their own families
And so they both went off to pray

The musican soon had his prayers answered
And soon he had two little boys
They both were healthy and happy
And were showered with love and with toys

The author however was not as fortunate
His one lost right after birth
The man would've had his own little daughter
Though she now lie still in the earth

The poor author fell into sadness
All he did was fill with despair
And depite his brother's kind actions
He still felt the whole thing unfair

The author soon felt nothing but anger
And he soon grew bitter and cold
And one day he lashed at his brother
His emotions now uncontrolled

The musican was struck in that anger
He soon would be limp on the floor
Because of the author's deep jealousy
The muscian soon was no more

But that is not all that had happened
That's not the last thing the madman did do
Next he stole his young nephews
The little boys of four and of two

He took the two boys with him
Just like a thief in the night
He went off into the forest
Leaving their mother in fright

And that's where there author would stay
With the two kidnapped young boys
Until the men from the village
Came out to stop his mad ploys

The insane man ran off instead
Leaving his nephews behind
And they say he never returned
And that he went out of his mind

The musician was later laid buried
Put down early to rest
He would sleep dead in a corn field
His small grave warmed by his vest

And now where he sleeps eternally
A merry scarecrow now stands
Watching and waiting forever
Looking out over the lands

And this the reason they give
As to why that scarecrow's now there
It is to protect out little children
From a dark creeping nightmare

For it is said that sometimes
Creeping out from the wood
The spirt of the author still lurks
Seeking to steal children for good

They say he is still dressed as he was
Neatly in black suit and tie
Lumbering occasionally from the woods
Looking out for another try

Though they also say that he has changed
That he is no longer just a man
That now he is more of a monster
Changed by his malicious plan

It's said that he is now tall and souless
His limbs now slim like the trees
And that his face is now blank and colourless
A sight that would make you just freeze

But that's why the scarecrow now stands
The grave at the base of his pole
Not to scare away birds
But as a physical console

For the scarecrow's likeness is said
To scare the author away
To drive into the monster a feeling
Of guilt of what he did that one dark day

It puts the people here at ease
Who are still full of fright
Superstious least to say
That something might come in the night

Now if it that works I'm not sure
But that is why it's now there
Still I would still sit here and warn you
When near the woods, I'd beware"

Slight backstory of Whitefield, the scarecrow flutist, in poem form. I decided to give him a name as well as one for the crow that was originally pictured for him. Her name is Bea and she can be summoned to Whitefield if he plays the notes, B-E-A, on his flute.

My recent interests are what sparked the story for Whitefield, as well as his role. This is actually the project I want to dabble in if I play in the print shop this year. The prints would illustrate the story of Whitefield's dealing with a few children who discover his... unique properties - mainly that being a magical scarecrow who plays the flute.

In the story, they would basically befriend him, be threatened by the Spirit of the Author (who is more or less Slender Man, yes, let me have my fun), though he is repelled by Whitefield and his music. However, the town, which has gone through social (and I guess religious reform) reform, seems to forget or no longer know of the Tale of the Two Brothers and views Whitefield as a threat. They then drive the scarecrow off, unknowing of his role as protector of the town. With him gone, the children of the town soon start to slowly disappear. One of the townsfolk, one who is actual becomes familiar with the story, goes off to find Whitefield in order to save the children.

I guess this project is based off two things: mainly the interest people had in the original print of him as well as my current interest in Slender Man. The two are connected anyway, as that was where I first heard of Slender Man. Buuuut yeah :) Fun.
